Description: |
Veterans Memorial Park is located on the corner of Rowland and Wellington Street in Mitchell Ontario. In 2021 tennis courts were added to this parkette among beautiful mature trees. Half the site is available for a small parkette complete with pollinator gardens, short walking path, benches, and raised bed gardens for a community use. We intend to make this a green oasis amidst the community. Scope of Work includes: 1. Regrading and clean up of the site: There is a catch basin on the Northern boundary of the newly installed tennis courts. The site needs to be graded to allow for natural drainage toward this catch basin. A gentle swale running from south to north through the site will allow for natural drainage. Drainage tile may be required and should the slope be insufficient to carry water to the catch basin and will be determined with contractor, designer and West Perth staff. 2. Layout of walkways, planting bed and tree locations according to drawings. All walkways to be priced using 6” depth of granular A base compacted, toped with 2” depth of limestone screenings (stone dust) compacted. 3. Preparation of planting beds according to the drawings provided using clean screened 4:5 parts sandy loam soil and 1:5 part triple mix soil. Berm planting beds to an ultimate height of 3’ or 1 meter. Install large granite boulders banked into the berms burying them about 1/3 into the berm for a more natural look. The granite boulders should be selected for interest and character. 4. Grading and seeding of lawn areas ensuring soil is clean or rocks, clay lumps, debris. Using a seed mix that is tolerant of drought and wear and tear including: 10% Kentucky Bluegrass • 30% Creeping Red Fescue • 30% Turf Type Perennial Ryegrass • 30% Annual Ryegrass. 5. Planting of high quality nursery stock for trees and shrubs ensuring all plant material is free of disease, well branched, sized according to drawings, and planted according to the details included on the drawings. Plant material will be rejected should it not meet landscape industry standards; Mulch all planting beds with shredded cedar mulch to a minimum depth of 2” ensuring that mulch is saucer around plants and not banked against stems or trunks. 6. Supply and installation of planting boxes using 2” x 6” boards with 6”x6” corner posts and centre posts , to an ultimate height of 2’above grade. Provide detail drawing of construction method and material at time of quoting. Pressure treated wood is not to be used. 7. Existing large trees on the site need to be protected during construction with no compaction from machinery and no heavy tilling or grading within drip line of the trees. Fencing of these trees during construction is required. Mulched circles around the base of all existing trees should be installed using shredded pine mulch to a minimum depth of 2”. Saucer mulch to avoid banking against trunks. Mulch circles should extend no less than 1.5 meters or 5’ out from the base of the trunks in all directions. 8. Leave the site clean and free of any construction debris and keep all roadways clear during construction and at the completion of the job. 9. Provide proof of liability insurance to 5 Million and WSIB compliance. 10. Guarantee all work for no less than 1 year from date of completion. |
